Welcome to Dunlin Class! (Year 4)

Welcome to Dunlins! As a class, we will flourish together and support every child to become the best they can be. Our Year 4 journey will be full of fun, personal growth, and amazing learning opportunities across the curriculum.

Meet the Year 4 Team:

Class Teacher is Mr. Holt

Class Teaching Assistant is Mrs. Edmondson.

Mr. Pickles will also be working with the class to provide PPA cover throughout the week.

PE and Swimming: Physical activity is an important part of our weekly routine. The children will have swimming lessons every Tuesday morning until Easter, so please ensure they bring their full swimming kit and a towel each week. We also have a regular PE lesson every Thursday afternoon, so correct, named PE kit should be kept in school.

Times Tables: In Year 4, the children complete the national standardised Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). We do lots of daily practice in class to develop our skills and building confidence, and every child receives a times tables keyring to take home for practice on the go. To further support their learning, we ask that all children access Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) at home at least three times per week.

Homework: Homework is set every Tuesday and is expected to be completed and returned by the following Monday. These tasks are kept short and manageable, serving as an opportunity to consolidate class learning while building good study habits that prepare the children for upper primary and high school. Homework includes weekly spellings, times tables practice, and a brief consolidation activity.

Reading We strive to create a love for reading in all of our children and provide dedicated time in class each day for reading. Every child will carry both an Accelerated Reader book suited to their reading level and a library book chosen for pleasure. We expect children to read at home at least three times per week, combining independent reading with reading aloud to an adult.

Home-School Communication We believe a strong partnership with parents and carers makes all the difference. If you have any worries, quick questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to us at the door or contact the school office to set up a chat. We look forward to a fantastic, inspiring year together!
